{now, allweneedisarelease • a reason to be and a fight in which we believe • Roxie was trustworthy of no man, no woman, and no person in general. She didn't trust Sonny, she didn't trust King, and she didn't even trust herself. Yet here she was, putting her faith in the two boys in order to snag some ecstasy. She'd run out and her last deal was in Fresna, so Roxie had to find a new outlet. Thankfully Sonny had come into the picture at the right time with a lovably generous dealer in Alex King, who Roxie had never really spoken much to before. She liked the kid, he hadn't rubbed her the wrong way, so she might as well give him a little leadway.
"This is bollocks," Roxie thought, toeing her cigarette into the pavement as she took the last drag.
Rain was drizzling from the sky, not enough to soak through her jacket but just enough to make fog rise from the pavement. Sonny stood next to her idly smoking a cigarette, unphased by the fact that it was almost midnight and they were skulking around an alley. Then again, this WAS Sonny's scene after all.
"When do you think he's gonna be here?" she asked, trying not to sound nervous but instead impatient.
Truth was, she was anxious as hell, and jonesing. If Brodee knew that she was sneaking around these shady alleys with these shady people, he would be none too pleased. Ah well, with any luck the deal would go swiftly and without a hitch so that Roxie could return to her little pretend world. Sketchy drug deals were a thing of the past for her. Pulling her hood over her head she stood a little bit closer to Sonny and pursed her lips, waiting for his response.

It wasn't because he really was angry at Roxie or King or anyone else, he was just far too used to having his feet pounding the pavement, chasing another high. He had a desert eagle tucked safely into his jacket, as was standard procedure for these nighttime encounters. Better safe than arrested.
"When do you think he's gonna be here?" Roxie asked, shifting nervously beside him.
"It's not even midnight yet, relax," he replied easily, leaning against the brick wall of the alley they were in and adjusting his hat lower on his head.
Sonny attire was all dark to protect him from roving headlights and curious eyes. Roxie had smartly done the same, even though Sonny knew full well that this wasn't her type of game. She was used to having her drugs hand delivered to her, but now that her dealer was gone, Sonny was her connection to what she needed.
At least it was her, though. Sonny couldn't imagine what it would be like to have impulsive, clingy Aubree or headstrong Amy out with him. They would ignore his suggestions and probably do their own thing. Roxie listened, she didn't judge, and she did what she was told.
When the sound of footsteps reached his ears, Sonny perked up and looked alert. That would be him now, most likely. lex smirked as he walked up behind the Sonny and Roxie on silent footsteps, thankful for the passerby walking by the alley. He didn't like people seeing him coming, it was his M.O., appear out of nowhere, deal, and then he was gone. He supposed it wasn't really necessary with them, but old habits die hard. Alex's smirk widened into a smile as he notices the slight bulge in Sonny's jacket- gun, large, probably a desert eagle, though most likely not as powerful as his modded .44 magnum. He walked up right between him and Roxie, chuckling softly- "You scared of me, Sonny?" Alex mused at his question, looking down the alley, then the other way, checking for cops and the overly curious. No one. They were, as far as he could tell, alone. Alex inspected his "business partners". Sonny looked calm and relaxed, he was packing - professional, he was used to this scene. Roxie, on the other hand, was nervous, she didn't like being here. Alex smiled. This was going to be a fun night. {now, allweneedisarelease • a reason to be and a fight in which we believe • Roxie was about to retort at Sonny- something along the lines of "relaxing is how people get caught"- when a figure materialized out of the mist and nearly jumped her out of her skin. GOD she hated doing these sketchy night deals. Roxie was a princess. She had always had her drugs hand-delivered to her in the safety of her home, or bus, or hotel. Somewhere that let her be in control. This was risky, any sneaky indivdual could pop up, as Alex just had.
"Jesus Alex, really?" she growled, though a smile crept across her face. Roxie took none too kindly to being startled, but she should have been used to Alex's stealth by now.
He was a welcome sight, that was for sure. Waiting around much longer would have probably given her an ulcer. She wasn't paranoid, certainly not. She just liked to be extra, extra careful.
"You scared of me, Sonny?" Alex asked with a bit of a grin. Roxie rolled her eyes.
"Sonny's not scared of anything, that's his problem," she replied, smirking.
Roxie felt that itch for ecstasy creeping up on her, and when Alex roamed around in his pockets her eye took on an excited gleam. There it was. She had asked for a specific kind of ecstasy: uncut, triple stacked playboys. Her favorite kind. Reaching in her pocket she gripped a wad of cash, hands shaking. Perfect. This was gold. Things seemed to be going without a hitch.

He was used to these occurrences, and the only thing that made him jump was the flick of a police light.
"You scared of me Sonny?" King asked, making a smirk play on the corner of Sonny's lips.
"Sonny's not scared of anything, that's his problem."
"Ah, King. You should know better, my friend," he laughed, removing his hand from his jacket and instead holding his wallet.
Sonny would have admitted that he was a bit nervous. He'd seen some suspicious cars, and he wasn't just paranoid. He had a trained eye, and knew something sketchy when he saw it. Because of this, he and Roxie had taken a roundabout way to the destination, retracing their steps more than once. Sonny took no chances, as fearless as he was.
He waited for King's next move, trusting him well enough to know that the kid knew how to make a deal go fast. No need for extra talk, motion or attention. Any well-trained drug dealer worked the grab-n'-go, and King was obviously more than trained. That was why Sonny had immediately put stock in him upon their meeting.
"So shall we?" he said, nodding to King's pocket.

"Jesus Alex, really?"
Alex chuckled as Roxie jumped. He got a twisted satisfaction from that feeling, he liked being in control, especially in these situations. He looked over at Sonny, calm and relaxed. This Alex expected. He didn't even plan on trying to put one past Sonny, they were to evenly matched for that to work to his advantage, and besides, they were friends, somewhat. "Sonny's not scared of anything, that's his problem" Alex chuckled at Roxie's comment, leaning back against the wall beside her, glancing around down the alley and out the street, before looking up at Sonny.
"Ah, King. You should know better, my friend" Sonny laughed, and Alex noted that something seemed to be crawling under his skin. Sonny was a bit nervous, and he knew it wasn't because of him. Alex glanced out of the alley, his trained eye searching the street in a few seconds. Nothing seemed out of place, but Alex couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to go down.
Sonny spoke again, and he looked back to him "so shall we?"
"Yeah, let's get this shit done" Alex let his hand fall from his pocket, the ecstasy concealed in his palm, hanging loosely right beside Roxie's. He would look off to the side, speaking quietly.

{now, allweneedisarelease • a reason to be and a fight in which we believe • Roxie took a deep breath and sifted through her wallet in her pocket, pulling out the bills that she'd isolated specifically for this occasion. She pulled her hand casually out of her pocket, forcing a laugh so their conversation looked casual, and reached her hand out to Alex with the bills palmed.
That was when everything went to shit.
PEWWWWW WOOOOOOOOP WOOOOOOP!
Headlights shone rudely on the scene and illuminated the three standing there. Blue and red flashed all around and the sound of sirens pierced the night. Roxie froze. It was all a bad dream right? This was a joke, someone was fucking with them.
"THIS IS THE NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT. PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEAD AND DROP TO YOUR KNEES. IF YOU HAVE WEAPONS, LAY THEM ON THE GROUND AND STEP AWAY FROM THEM." a voice blared over a megaphone.
Cop headlights pulled into the other end of the alley, trapping them there.
Roxie's breath caught in her throat and her hand immediately withdrew to her pocket. Her first instinct said run. In that five second span her gaze shot from Sonny to Alex, then back to the cop lights. She held stock still.
"Whatdowedo, whatdowedo??" she hissed frantically, all the blood draining from her face.
Her eyes flicked to Sonny's hand, which had immediately gone into his jacket. Then it hit her: she knew what he was hiding. She should have known before. And he was going for it. She wanted to scream at him, stop him, something, but it was no use. Time was passing too quickly and Sonny had made his decision.

He would wait until after she was done with the exchange to take the coke. It seemed less sketchy that way. However, as Roxie reached out her hand, the last thing in the world that Sonny thought would happen- yeah, shit hit the fan.
""THIS IS THE NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT. PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEAD AND DROP TO YOUR KNEES. IF YOU HAVE WEAPONS, LAY THEM ON THE GROUND AND STEP AWAY FROM THEM.""
Unlike Roxie, Sonny's first instinct said "fight back," and that was exactly what he was going to do. He reached for his inner pocket and held it there, waiting to see the positions of the police. None of them had their guns out, which gave Sonny the perfect opportunity to get away. He wasn't thinking about Alex, or Roxie. He was thinking about himself.
The gun left his jacket and he held it out, back against a dumpster so that cops from either side would have to struggle to trap him properly. He looked above him- a fire escape. He could flee to the roofs.
"DROP THE WEAPON AND PUT YOUR HANDS ABOVE YOUR HEAD. THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING." the loudspeaker called, but Sonny stood his ground, breath caught in his throat. Roxie and Alex were still frozen, but he wasn't paying a single gram of attention to them. He couldn't. He'd pulled his weapon. There was no turning back now.
