my old friend how long it's been my original sin we meet again Seth was right where he belonged, and he had no intention of moving. It was late and they had just finished up as the last set of the night. The rest of the band had already left and was venturing toward the bus but Seth chose to stay behind for some alone time. 420 Departure was the set just before them, which meant that Cloud could have still been floating around somewhere, but if he was, far be it for Seth to interrupt what could have been his meditating time. No. With the curtains in front of him closed and the fabric barrier behind him he was right where he needed to be. He sat down behind the drums tapping on the cymbal a little letting the sound ring through his ears. It was little sounds like this one, or a pen hitting the floor, or rain outside, or even the skipping of a CD that made him really appreciate what he had lost forever. It’s amazing how much you can invest in one thing when you think it’s gone forever.
Seth had spent so much time drumming. It was the only thing that gave him hope. Maybe one day he could be something, with or without his hearing. And so here he was, only a few years later, hearing, almost famous, and the happiest he had ever been. But sometimes, when he just needed to get back to his roots; the place where all this passion and drive came from, he’d actually play with earplugs in. Some days it was just better to feel the music. He pulled out some neon yellow ear plugs from his pocket and pressed them into his ears falling back into the days of mute sound and only the sense of feeling to guide him.
He drummed out a gentle steady beat. It was only the feeling of the floor slightly lowering behind him that was any indication he was no longer alone.

Cloud sighed, biting his lip. He'd just been talking to Aeryn. Of course, he loved talking to Aeryn, she made him happy. But she also made him sad. When she was feeling down, the feeling rubbed off on him, because all he really wanted was for her to be happy. Then when she was happy, it was usually because of another guy, and that made him feel sad, because he wanted to be the guy that made her happy. He just wouldn't ever be good enough for her, or anyone. He was too shy, quiet and cowardly; nobody wanted that in a guy.
Walking away from Aeryn as she told him that she should be leaving, Cloud headed backstage. Usually he didn't go there until the band were gone, because he just got in the way, and all of the noise and activity made him feel a little nervous. Hopefully they wouldn't be there now, so he could collect his bag, which he occasionally left there if he'd passed through for some reason.
He was surprised to hear the sound of drumming. Shouldn't everyone have left by now? Thinking he should go investigate, he nervously peered around at the stage, hoping that there weren't too many people around. It wasn't in his nature to be nosey, but there wasn't much else for him to do. Maybe he could enjoy some music for a while before he returned to the mania that was his bus.
He could immediately tell that it was Seth, even though his back was to him. He so frequently walked around shirtless that Cloud knew his exact skin tone and could probably recognize him just from his body. That was possibly because he couldn't help himself from lingering on his torso for a little longer than considered normal between two close friends.
He stood watching him for some time, enjoying the fact that he could watch him from a distance without being noticed. When he thought about it, it seemed so amazing that so much damage had been done to his ears, and yet he was now on stage playing drums every other day.
Even though he wasn't really up for two uncomfortable conversations in the space of less than an hour, Cloud walked closer to Seth, clearing his throat, even though it was unlikely that he could hear him over the crash of a cymbal.
Cloud tapped Seth on the shoulder. "Hey," he said, smiling slightly, and doing his nervous habit of putting the string of his camera around his wrist and spinning it in circles over and over again so that the string wound and unwound itself constantly. It put pressure on his cuts, which made it hard for him not to wince, but he was used to it, and that feeling of cuts being pulled apart reminded him of who he was.
Suddenly Cloud felt that it was a bad idea for him to have come up to Seth. Surely now he'd know that Cloud had been watching him, and that would seem weird. To make matters worse, he was shirtless, which was another of those things that Cloud both loved and hated. All Seth did was remind him of how unwanted he was, and he'd had enough of that for one day already. If he could've, he would have run away right then, but he'd make an even bigger fool of himself. That and running really wasn't his thing.

my old friend how long it's been my original sin we meet again Seth was utterly lost. And that was just the way he liked it. He sat there thinking of nothing but breathing and feeling; feeling nothing but the music. It was strange, but he had created this world when he couldn’t hear that was just for himself and him alone. It was here that nothing hurt, nothing broke, and nothing bled. All was quiet, literally, and all was as it always should have been. Contrary to popular belief Seth was one of the most misunderstood people in existence. On the surface, everything was perfect. He was handsome, well rounded, fairly healthy, loving, honest, caring, loved by many, and talented. But things weren’t always easy for him. He was really not this masterpiece of perfection everyone held him up to be. And it was hard trying to maintain that image. If there was one thing he ever feared the most it was letting people down. He could never let someone down. So what did that mean?
It meant always being strong, always being confident, always being honest. Never let them see you hurt, afraid, or angry. But here, he could be anyone he wanted. It was here in this place all his own, he was allowed to do and say what he pleased. He could feel real feelings, and not have to hide them away under a dark rock, and keep them for privacy.
If there was anyone he ever had to stay the strongest for it was Cloud. He and Cloud had been childhood friends, and they had always been polar opposites. Cloud was fragile, painfully shy, and lacked in the confidence of even a rodent. Seth had always been happy confident and outgoing. So there had always been this innate need to look out for Cloud and….protect him? Maybe that was it. Seth always wanted to protect Cloud. He wanted to protect him from anything and everything that could scare him or hurt him. But the worst part was that Seth had probably hurt him the most, aside from Aeryn that is.
So for now, Seth would save his feeling for this place made for him and only him, and stay strong for Cloud.
Suddenly this concentration was broke by none other than Cloud himself. Feeling the tap on his shoulder he ceased drumming and spun around quickly on his stool. He knew to expect this, so it wasn’t as if he had frightened him. Pulling the earplugs out he smiled up at Cloud.
“Oh, hey.”
At level with Cloud’s wrist he saw exactly what he was doing, and knew just what it meant. But he’d scold him for that later. Feeling a little bad that he was shirtless and sweaty now he wiped off his forehead with the back of his hand and pushed his wet hair out of his face. Panting a little he only stood, wiping his hands on his jeans.
“So what’s up?"

“Oh, hey. So what’s up?"” Seth said, as he brushed his hair from his face. It was impossible to deny that he looked hot with his hair all wet, and his body shining with a thin layer of sweat. On some guys that would just look gross, but on Seth it looked hot. Having said that, everything looked good on Seth. A pink thong would probably look good on Seth... That image in Cloud's mind probably wasn't the best thing at that moment.
"Nothing really..." He chewed the inside of his cheek, wondering why it never hurt to chew the skin there...
Cloud sat down on the floor cross-legged and looked up at Seth. He had this sudden urge to stand up again and kiss him, but Cloud knew that that wouldn't end well from experience. He'd love to just do it once more though, preferably to have Seth completely forget it afterwards so that he didn't have to have the repercussions of it again.
"I've just been taking pictures again... of the same people... in the same place. So fun..." If sarcasm were a tone that Cloud ever used, those words would have been thick with it. Unfortunately, he wasn't well-accustomed to modern humour, neither did he really enjoy it.
He sighed, and suddenly felt as though he had to say exactly what was on his mind. As he'd said a few days ago, it's the actions that you don't take that you'll regret for the longest. He probably would've regretted not trying to kiss Seth all of those years ago if he hadn't, and he'd lie awake wondering what would've happened but never knowing. So, he shoved aside any worries that Seth would make assumptions and take things in the wrong way, and decided to talk to him about the one topic he really wanted to.
"So... I was talking to a... erm... one of your fans earlier." He decided it best to say it was a fan rather than Aria, as he had promised that he wouldn't mention anything. "She seemed to think that she was in love with you. I can s-" He was about to say 'I can see why she'd think that,' but decided against it. "It made me wonder about that... stuff. Like... did you have anyone since I last saw you? Like a girlfriend... or any... now?" He looked away from Seth, hoping that he wouldn't think he was asking about anything other than whether he had feelings for Aria too.
Even though Cloud knew that he would never have a chance with Seth, he still hoped that he didn't like Aria back. If they ever got together he'd be upset. Really upset. Again, stupid, because Seth was bound to get a girlfriend some time, and Cloud couldn't stop him. It wasn't as though Cloud would never love anybody else. After all, he had Aeryn as well. Just another name on the list of people that didn't like him back, but at least with her there was a time when she returned his feelings.

my old friend how long it's been my original sin we meet again "I've just been taking pictures again... of the same people... in the same place. So fun..."
Clouds words floated from his mouth and fell flat on the floor at Seth’s feet. That was one of those funny things about Cloud. He couldn’t be sarcastic if he tried. It was almost sort of cute. He was just so meek. But that’s one of those things about him that made Seth smile. He and Cloud were almost complete opposites. But sometimes it’s what Seth needed. Someone to keep him grounded. Keep him steady. Even just Cloud’s presence did that. He took a seat on the floor in front of Cloud, wiping his hair from his face with his forearm hoping he wasn’t grossing Cloud out too much. But then again, in all the years the two had been friends Cloud had put up with a lot of gross-ness from Seth.
For a split second Seth wondered why he and Cloud had lost touch for so long; but only for a split second. He then remembered.
It was way back, during the duration of their high school years in late November, one of those wet chilly gray days; the kind that just make you want to curl up under a pile of quilts inside. Seth and Cloud sat in Seth’s room working on homework with Seth at his desk, and Cloud reclined on his bed. The exact series of events, having happened years back, were a bit fuzzy in Seth’s mind now. But it was something along the lines of Seth crossing to the bed to help Seth with a problem, sitting down by him, and at the least expected moment, Cloud turned, and kissed Seth straight on the lips.
Maybe it could have happened to anyone. It was never really discussed between the two that Seth was straight, and that Cloud wasn’t. So who knows what the other was assuming. Seth always thought Cloud was straight. But surprisingly, men and women and relationships didn’t come up much as a topic of conversation.
After that Cloud left in a shocked and embarrassed rut. The days following were awkward and brief exchanges, and soon after Cloud left. Seth couldn’t contact him if he wanted to. He wasn’t sure of exactly where he had gone. But now the dynamic duo was back…and who knows where it could go this time.
"So... I was talking to a... erm... one of your fans earlier. She seemed to think that she was in love with you. I can s-"
Seth wondered what Cloud was about to say, but didn’t bother to ask why, seeing as he continued off in another direction.
“It made me wonder about that... stuff. Like... did you have anyone since I last saw you? Like a girlfriend... or any... now?"
Seth leaned back on his elbows crossing his legs straight out in front of him.
“Awhhh, that’s cute. She should have come back stage to say hi after. But nope. Nothing of that kind right now. Not so sure if I’m ready to jump into that field again just yet.”
He thought for a moment, not putting the pieces together, and ignoring the past.
“There is someone though. Well…maybe 2."
