Venus rounded the corner, rubbing the back of her neck to try to push away the tension that had been irritating her all day. She looked nervously behind her, then back in front of her, and behind her again. The dark sky was putting her slightly on edge, and the way the shadows cloaked every inch of the streets around her freaked her out; she just didn't know what might be concealed in the pitch black.
A small movement caught her attention from the corner of her eye, and she jerked her head in that direction, grimacing at the pain it caused her already sore muscles. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, listening intently to the sounds. She was listening so hard that she couldn't tell the difference between the pulse hammering in her ears and the rustle of leaves or the sound of car exhausts.
Screaming positive thoughts to her own mind, she brought up the strength to power through the street. She'd gone there for a reason, and she intended to continue until she finally reached her destination: unknown. Power walking through the depths of the darkness, she looked left and right constantly, biting down hard on her lip and digging her nails into her own palm.
Vee shrieked as something fluttered towards her, hitting her in the face. It had made her skin feel wet and slimy, and she didn't want to know what it was. She wiped furiously at her face to try to get rid of whatever had just infiltrated her bubble of security. She continued to strain her eyes to look through the alley she was currently in, wishing that there could at least be a street lamp near by. Having no luck, she finally collapsed to the ground, twining her fingers in her hair and pulling on it.
As if to make the moment even worse, the skies opened, and suddenly the rain was hammering down, no doubt making her dark make up trickle down her face. She sniffled a little, and curled up in a ball on the floor. She desperately hoped that nobody would pass by that had a gun that night, because she intended on sleeping there until it got light again.

GET UP, GET UPsing it like you're screaming at meI LOVE THE WAY YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY In the typical New York fashion, Calico held a newspaper over his head as he jogged through the streets trying to return home from the gym. It had looked gloomy all day, which put Calico off his usual jog, and instead sent him to the indoor workout facilities that he knew so well. Taking a detour through the alleys, he figured he'd cut through the park and get home faster out of this rain. Today had not been the day for a white workout shirt.
Too many things were on his mind. His band, that he was quickly getting tired of due to the constant fighting and strife. Calico could never get a good night's sleep between the drinking, the screaming, the sex, the whatever of the rest of his bandmates. For a hippie band, they sure were batshit crazy. In the middle of his thoughts, he splashed through a puddle and immediately soaked his socks.
"Aw, shit." he muttered, looking down at his expensive nikes.
With a sigh he squelched over to a dumpster and took off his shoe, trying to dump some of the water out of it. Having no luck, he frowned and shook out his newspaper, which had gotten soaked all the way through and was no longer useful to protect him from the rain. His hair was completely messed up and now hanging in his eyes, so he lifted a hand to fix it. In doing so, he looked at the ground and saw a peculiar sight: a girl, laying on the ground.
Immediately he knelt down and touched her shoulder, taking off his track jacket and putting it over her. Not only did he not know what was wrong with her, but he definitely didn't know who she was.
"Yo, hey, are you okay?" he asked, trying to be a gentle and nonthreatening as possible.
"Talking looks like this!" Thinking looks like this! "Other characters talking looks like this!"

Vee jumped violently as a hand touched her shoulder, and she let out a little squeak of fear, the air catching in her throat. It suddenly felt like she was breathing carbon monoxide rather than air, and she took in a shaky breath, trying to force the air to thin.
"Leave me alone!" she shouted, instinctively swerving her arm out behind her, moving it with force into whoever was touching her. Her body automatically followed through the action, and she was facing a man. He didn't look mean, but Venus knew better than to judge a book by its cover.
She scrambled away from him, pushing her body backwards with her feet, palms scraping against the rocky ground beneath her. "Leave me the fuck alone," she repeated, sounding a lot more confident than she felt.
She couldn't help but wonder what this guy would want from her. Did he want to steal her money? Her phone? She had neither with her. Suddenly she realized that this meant she couldn't call for help, if he were to try to hurt her. She looked back in her mind, scanning through the previous few years. She remembered the last conversation she'd had with Luka. She'd only been messing with him, and he hopefully knew that, but she'd told him that she didn't love him. Venus only wished now that her last ever conversation with the person she loved most could have been something a little more romantic, informing him of how much he truly meant to her.
She was about to stand up and flat-out run away from him as she scanned his body, realizing that she'd never be able to out-run somebody as well-built as him. But then she noticed his expression again, and how concerned and gentle it looked. "Yo, hey, are you okay?" asked the man, sounding kind - as though he wanted to help her.
She bit down on her lip to stop the tears that threatened to spill down her cheeks. She stretched one arm out over the other and pinched on her skin hard. She usually did this to see if she was dreaming. More often than not, she felt no pain, and she was dreaming. But in that instance, it wasn't a dream, and she knew that it was really happening. She wasn't as scared anymore, but it was the usual precautions. At least now she knew that if a gun was introduced into the scene it was imperative that she run. Either that, or get shot.
But that was just Venus, cynical as ever, and so afraid of dreaming that she often forced herself to stay awake. If anyone thought the dark circles of eye make up around her eyes were just for looking good, they were wrong.

GET UP, GET UPsing it like you're screaming at meI LOVE THE WAY YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY Now, if his gentle giant disposition weren't such a dead giveaway to his overwhelmingly pleasant personality, Calico might look like one of those juiced up muscleheads that was always chasing a skirt. However, he wasn't. He was a gentleman. He didn't even really swear that much, which was why when the girl sniped: "Leave me alone!", Calico jumped almost a foot in the air.
He wasn't a scaredy cat either. He just wasn't too fond of being yelled at. There was too much yelling constantly surrounding him anyway, so he really didn't feel like dealing with more. This was why when the girl snapped at him a second time, he set his expression and frowned at her with determination.
"No, I will not leave you alone, and I don't think it's really necessary to swear at me either," he stated quietly, but firmly. "You're laying in an alleyway, and that's how women get raped and... and stuff."
Calico furrowed his brow as she bit her lip and looked a little more taken aback. He had never quite seen something like this before, but he had also never spent his time crawling around alleys either. So he was kind of a princess, what's your point? Offering her his arm, he tried to be a little more reassuring.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, but we should probably go somewhere warm and dry. There's a little awning over a bench at the end of this alley." he offered,

"No, I will not leave you alone, and I don't think it's really necessary to swear at me either. You're laying in an alleyway, and that's how women get raped and... and stuff."
Venus frowned, and bit down harder on her lip. It hurt a little as her teeth dug into her skin, but it was better to endure the pain than to have this random guy see her crying. She wasn't really one for crying, but sometimes it was inevitable. She wanted to have a tough-girl image, but was pretty sure that that was ruined by her often irrational actions and her highly immature boyfriend.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, but we should probably go somewhere warm and dry. There's a little awning over a bench at the end of this alley."
His tone still sounded soft, and somehow comforting, but Venus definitely wasn't one to trust anybody just because of a few words they say to her. All the same, going off with this stranger seemed a lot more appealing to her than lying on the wet floor right now. He had offered somewhere warm and dry, and as long as she had those two luxuries, she'd be happy, or at least content.
She tugged on his arm to pulls herself up, and was standing beside him, but felt a little dizzy and unstable. She wrapped her arms around his neck so that she wouldn't fall over, and their bodies were inches apart. She rested her head on his shoulder. Venus was aware that this probably seemed a little inappropriate, but she didn't care much for those things, and she was too disorientated and paranoid to care. She was also aware that if he wasn't as kind as he seemed, she'd just put herself in a lot of danger, but she figured that if she stayed where she was before, she was in just as much danger.
"I-I'm sorry," she stammered a little, lifting her head to meet his eyes. "I don't feel good.. there are.." She looked over her left shoulder. "..things.." She looked over her right shoulder. "...and I'm scared. What if they..?" she trailed off, sounding a little breathless. She was definitely over-reacting, but she was so afraid of her dreams that she was now afraid of reality to some extent as well.
"And thanks. Take me somewhere so I don't feel like an ice storm hit me in the fucking head."

GET UP, GET UPsing it like you're screaming at meI LOVE THE WAY YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY When the girl seemed to finally relax a bit, Calico practically sighed with relief. He was honestly the last person that would tro to hurt someone, but she didn't know that. She fell into him, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her head in his collarbone. Although he was surprised, he didn't stop her. Instead he placed his hands on her hips to support her, hoping that he wouldn't offend her or something. She seemed a bit feeble and he wondered if something had happened to her.
She muttered an apology, then began to ramble weakly about something- somethings that were apparently after her. Calico looked around with the expression of a protective bulldog as if to warn anything away. For a moment he wondered if he should offer to carry her to the awning until her mumbling suddenly stopped.
"Take me somewhere so I don't feel like an ice storm hit me in the fucking head"
Calico nodded and led her out of the alleyway, hand still on her waist should she lose her balance again. When they reached the bench he fixed his jacket on her shoulders, as it had been falling off.
"My name's Calico, like the pattern," he said gently, wiping some rain off his forehead. "What about you?"
