AHEM. Basically it's set in school. My plot thing was that Koti has a crush on Jonah, then Jonah gets a girlfriend and he's all upset + turns to Connor, who's like, really cool, and ends up dating him. Like.. exactly what happened on the site.
The sun hung low in the sky, casting only a dim glow on the street. The leaves on the trees looked orange beneath the sunset, though it was mid-summer and they were a definite green colour when in daylight.
I was lying on the thick, lush grass of my front lawn, staring up at the sky, hands folded on my stomach. I'd been sun bathing all day, trying to get my pale, freckled skin to darken slightly. I'd applied piles of sun block throughout the day, but I expected that I'd be burnt anyway; it had been excessively hot.
Behind the soft hum of music, I heard my name being called. I sat up, pulling the headphones from my ears, and was immediately happy at the sight of Jonah, my best friend.
I blushed hard as he walked over. I'd just been lying down, and my hair probably looked terrible. I didn't pull out my pocket mirror as I usually would - I figured that would just make me look vain. Instead I puffed up my hair with my hand a little, and shook my head in the hope that it would regain some of its volume and not look completely terrible.
Jonah was one of the cool guys at school. The popular ones that everybody loved. The people that I wished I could be friends with. Yes, Jonah was my best friend, but none of his friends liked me. It was probably because I hung out with what people might consider 'losers'. We spend most of our time listening to music and writing songs, so people just forget about us, and think that we're no fun because we don't talk and party as much as everybody else. Well, I'm sixteen years old and I've never had sex, never been high, and never been drunk, and my life seems pretty fun. So I can't see the problem.
"Hey, Coco," Jonah said, that cute smile playing at the corner of his lips. Gosh, he was so hot. And his hair looked super cute today.
He sat down on the grass beside me, feet at shoulder-width apart, knees bent, and his weight on his arms that were stretched out behind him for support. I copied this position that he was in, and looked to my left at him, trying to keep my smile looking cool.
"Hi, Jonah!" I responded, probably sounding a little too enthusiastic for what should have just been a casual greeting.
"How are you, bud?" He asked. Small-talk. Damn it, I hated when people just said stuff like that. His coming over to see me had better have a purpose.. On second thoughts I was quite happy to just sit beside him and enjoy his beauty..
"I-I'm fine, thanks. You?" Stupid stutter of mine.. I mentally kicked myself for the dang thing.
He shrugged. "Not too bad." He looked up towards the sky, seeming not to notice that I was looking at him. "There's a party this weekend," he muttered, and then cleared his throat a little. "I never see you at those things. Why don't you come along? You can bring some friends," he offered.
Had I seriously just been invited to a party? By Jonah? I bit down hard on my lip, seriously considering it.
"Well, you know I'd love to, Jonah, but-"
"But nothing, Coco! You always come up with some excuse. 'It's not really my scene,' or 'I have homework to do.'" His tone sounded joking, but it still kinda hurt. He continued in a softer tone. "Please just come. I'm trying to get you all cool now. It sucks not hanging with you at school."
I couldn't help the smile that twitched at my lips. "Okay.. I'll come. As long as you promise not to ditch me when we're there."
Did I honestly just agree to go to a party? What was I thinking? It would be a mistake. They'd all just make fun of me for not wanting to drink or for dancing like an idiot or something.. I'd never even really been to a party other than as a kid. I'd mess it all up.
"'Course I won't, Koti. Since when did I ever ditch you?" I started to respond, but pressed my lips together, deciding that that was probably a rhetorical question. "You can bring a friend along if you want. Maybe even.. a member of the opposite sex!" He clamped a hand to his mouth and put on a shocked face, clearly making fun of me. I pouted, and folded my arms, sitting up a little.
"You knoooow I suck at dates." And the only person I wanted to date was Jonah. "Couldn't I just take another friend..? I bet Aubree would go!" I said excitedly. Aubree was another of my best friends. I was worried about her recently though, since she hadn't been talking to me as much. I was pretty certain that I hadn't done anything to offend her, so couldn't work out why she'd be acting so strangely around her best friend..
"Yeah, Aubree sounds good. Top tip: stop with the hair and make up obsession! You're beautiful without it, honey," he mocked, chuckling at his own joke, and throwing his head back to look at the sky.
"You know I hate my freckles! And my hair is my life. I refuse to go to a party with shit hair and no make up! That'd just be gross," I complained, whining a little, and leaning my body over in Jonah's direction.
